The company has filed RuneScape gold two trademarks in UK with one trademark with the title "OSRS Gold" as well as another for "RS Gold" in addition to stating that the firm has registered that the phrase is used as words. This could prevent third-party sites from being able to claim that they sell RS Gold.
A cursory Google search on either yields hundreds of websites, some of which have one of the terms mentioned in their URL, that offer currency in RuneScape in exchange for real money. This came after the announcement on October 13 that Jagex was putting an end for "real-world trade". In a post to its blog "The RuneScape Team" stated that "gold bought through RWT real-world trading can cause problems in every online game with traded currency."
Jagex claims it will start sending "messages to players we've identified as engaging in the RWT" within "the next few hours". "For those who have been involved, we want to be clear - this is your first or only warning" said the statement.
The announcement also included the news about the game's PvP option, Duel Arena, would see sweeping changes that included an increased enforcement of game's code-of-conduct, in order to promote more positive game play. Jagex declares that the feature "has been a catalyst for this toxic behaviour".
However, before that what the publisher refers to as "short-term measures" will be taken "until our development teams are able to provide a major update that fully replaces the Duel Arena next year."
