Today, the Irvine-based company stated that WoTLK Gold its worldwide subscribers had surpassed 11 million. In addition to that figure WOW's citizens would be only slightly higher than the entire population of Greece according to the Central Intelligence Agency's World Fact Book.

According to Blizzard the parent corporation Vivendi SA's most recent financial statements, World of Warcraft has been on the verge of reaching 11 million players since July. Today's milestone is just 10 months after Blizzard announced WOW's 10 millionth subscriber in January.

Since Blizzard has a wide range of payment options in various countries, the company defines "subscriber" as follows: " World of Warcraft subscribers are those that have paid for a fee for subscription or who have an active prepay account to participate in World of Warcraft, as and those who bought this game, and have been in their month-long access period. Internet Game Room players who have played the game in the past 30 days are also considered as subscribers. The above definition excludes gamers with WOW WoTLK Classic Gold no-cost promotional memberships. They also exclude expiring or cancelled subscriptions, as well as expired prepay cards. Licensees' territories are defined according to the same criteria."
