Casting defects can be divided into generalized defects and narrow defects. In a broad sense, casting defects refer to the fact that the quality characteristics of castings do not meet the grade standards, the quality management of foundries is poor, and the quality of products cannot be effectively guaranteed. Narrow casting defects are detectable: for example, dimensions and weights are out of tolerance, materials do not meet acceptance specifications. The main defects are as follows:
1. The dimensional accuracy of the casting is out of tolerance
2. Rough casting surface
3. Casting surface defects: sticky sand, sand inclusion, rat tail depression, bulge, metal thorns and metal beads
4. Hole defects: shrinkage, stomata and slag inclusions
5. Crack defects: cold cracks and hot cracks
Other defects: brittle fracture, deformation and decarburization of the casting surface.
