Before you begin training, you'll need to be aware of the equipment you will make use of, and this will be contingent on the investment and your level of Defence. In the beginning of your Ranged training with RS Gold, you must use a mix of knives, darts and arrows, based on your budget. Knives are the fastest ranged weapon to hit at this level, followed closely by darts, and finally the arrows fired by a shortbow. Always use the speed attack technique when you are ranging.
When you reach 28 ranged, you're equipped with the Dorgeshuun crossbow, which is comparable in characteristics to a yew shorterbow. The power of this weapon is due to the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the ammunition it shoots - bone bolts. They can be purchased from the Grand Exchange for as low as 8 cents each and are the same range of strength as rune bows. Although this crossbow is slower than shorter bows, darts and knives, it's still more efficient in low-levels due to the precision and damage rate from bone bolts.
There are a variety of armors available in kinds, from leather all the way up to Armadyl pieces and blessed dragonhide armor. These offer the same offensive and defensive attributes as their unblessed alternatives, but with a Prayer bonus. The wearer wearing full leather without weapons will receive a ranged +6 attack bonus. Leather studded can grant a +14 ranged attack bonus that requires 20 Ranged and defence, snakeskin grants an 18 ranged attack bonus, requiring 30 ranged and defence, green dragonhide grants an additional 31 ranged attack bonus, which requires 40 ranged and defence, blue dragonhide grants an additional 40 ranged attack bonus, which requires 50 ranged and 40 defense and red dragonhide grants an additional ranged attack bonus of +49. which requires 60 ranged and 40 defence and black dragonhide grants an additional ranged attack bonus of +58. which requires 70 ranged and 40 defence and finally, the full Armadyl will give an additional +63 ranged attack bonus, which requires 70 ranged and 70 defence to be equipped. The set is expensive however.
Other essential items include those of the Robin Hood Hat, Ranger Boots and a Rangers' Tunic, Archers Ring and Slayer Helm (i). Except for the Helm of Slayer (i) they are costly and are not essential items that can be substituted with less expensive alternatives. For the Slayer Helm (i) it is an ordinary Slayer Helm (Black Mask works also) that has been infused with Nightmare Zone to grant a 15% increase in Ranged and Magic precision and damage, which is a similar effect as Void Knight equipment. It is recommended in nearly all situations to use the Slayer Helm (i) over Void because Void equipment not giving bonuses to attack. However, this is not the case however, when Salve Amulet (ei)'s should be equipped, since it stacks with Void, however it is a rare thing and only used in Vorkath.
Methods of Training
Level 1 to 25: Chickens and Cows
Everybody should be aware of this location near the Lumbridge Teleport A farmer has left all his chickens and cows in a fenced-in area and waiting for slaughter. In the beginning, I would recommend eliminating all chickens due to their ineffective defense. Any ammunition is fine however iron knives are the most efficient. Around level 10. or then you can make the transition towards cows in the pen that is to the east. They are tougher than chickens and will give you an increase in XP. Do not bother with the hides, burying the bones, or picking up the arrows. You'll want to get quick and out as you can here with RS 2007 Fire Cape.
Level 25-50: Sand Crabs or Rock Crabs
The picture on the left is where you can train at if not looking to cannon to get early Ranged XP. It is situated south from Zeah which is also a very well-known training spot because of its highly AFK style. At the current Ranged level , you don't have to locate a location with three sand crabs since they wouldn't be killed fast enough to make a difference therefore 2 is sufficient. an Dorgeshuun crossbow that has bone bolts is fine in either of these places. Do not pick up any bolts that have fallen.
