  This darker tone is led by the main adversary, Lilith. She's the daughter of Mephisto One of the great Evils, and is called the Mother of Sanctuary, the realm in which the Diablo series takes place. Unlike previous games where there was a gradual building up towards the big boss responsible for all the evils in this world Blizzard set Lilith up on the frontline from the very first cutscene.

  
  

  The playable model begins at Fractured Peaks and ends with my hero's horse being killed and leaving him in a cave all by him for the rest of the evening. From the caves emerged the first destination, Nevesk, a very tiny town where things aren't exactly as they appear.

  
  

  Lilith is already making an impact on the few residents of the town, and her true power lies in her ability to make people indulge in their dark side. This was the first interaction my character had with other NPCs, and it was pretty clear how the creators wanted to give the protagonist more of a role in the story through having their own dialogue, as well as taking an integral role in the cut scenes.
